La Grande Roue de Montréal

We were so excited to experience La Grande Roue de Montréal during our recent visit to Old Montréal. Located right on Old Port where all the action is at, this was the perfect place to be.  La Grande Roue is a climate-controlled as well as the tallest observation wheel in Canada. Allowing visitors to see the city and its beautiful surrounding in a 360 panoramic view from 60 meters in the air, which is equivalent to a 20 story building.   On a clear day, visitors can see 28 km away.

La Grande Roue de Montréal is equipped with 42 climate-controlled gondolas with ultra-clear tempered glass panes.  This allows visitors to observe the beautiful landscape in detail while protecting them from the UV rays.  Open year-round, visitors are assured to have a comfortable experience with air-conditioning in the summer and temperate in the winter.  It made its debut to Old Montréal in 2017.

We had been exploring Old Port all morning and finally made our way to  La Grande Roue de Montréal.  Checking in was a breeze.  The lines were pretty long but moved pretty swiftly as well.  Once we checked in, we were directed to the security check-in for bag check and then a photo op.

We then boarded our gondola and await for the ride to start.

The ride was really smooth and we were just amazed as to how gorgeous Montreal is from up above and at every angle.

We are just enjoying the view from here.

The boys spotted the zipline and aerial park and have already planned their next activity.

Gorgeous view all around. This is Old Port where are the merchants are. We made sure we stopped there for some souvenirs.

View of the Saint Lawrence River!

After the ride, we stopped at the bistro on-site for a quick bite to eat.

Vang was surprised at how delicious the hot dog was. The bun was toasted and hot dog was cooked just right. He rarely eats hot dog and mentioned that this was the best hot dog he has had.

We were surprised at the length of the ride. We have been on other observation wheels and this one was pretty long. It was approximately 20 minutes allowing us to relax and take in the views. What an amazing time we had taking in the breathtaking views of Old Montreal and Old Port on one side and the Saint Lawrence River on the other side.

Thank you Tourisme Montreal for showing us a great time!

Pin it for later!

    1. Your welcome Tricia! It is so beautiful. We had an amazing time! Our boys are already talking about another trip to Canada! 🙂

  2. My son has been wanting to visit Montreal, so I’ll put this on our list! 20 minutes is a long time on such an attraction. I love that you really have time to soak in all of the views! Being fully enclosed would help me with my fear of heights 🙂

  3. Now that looks fun and like an amazing way to see a city! I’m not sure I could relax being that high off the ground, but I’d be willing to try. Thanks for taking us along on the ride!

  4. This sounds like a fun experience, but I am afraid of heights! I imagine being inside the closed gondola helps a little with being so high.

  5. How fun! I’ve seen these in other big cities, like London and Edinburgh, but I’ve never ridden on one. I thought the lines where so long but maybe they move faster that I think. Great views from that height!
